If you are called to serve your local church or wish to discern where God is leading you, the School of Ministry is ready to journey with you.

Program Overview
The School of Ministry meets six weekends each year in a semester format (March-May and September-November). Typically, each weekend consists of one session Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and two sessions on Saturday running 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. 

Three courses are offered each semester with homework assigned in between meetings. Completion of the Program each “Year” includes a summer internship between the Spring and Fall Semesters and Winter project. 

Registration for the 2023 Year of Leadership is closed due to full enrollment.

Meeting dates for 2024 Year of Foundations will be posted soon. Registration opens for 2024 on August 1, 2023.

Tuition covers the cost of all in person learning sessions, books, materials, overnight accommodations, meals, and snacks. Each student is responsible for their own travel to and from each learning session.

Fully Registered Students will have submitted the following three items:
  1. A completed application
  2. Pastor letter of support addressed to Reverend Tony Pappas
  3. A nonrefundable $250 deposit. Checks made out to “TABCOM School of Ministry” can be mailed or payments may be submitted online through the tabcom.org website. From the homepage click on the black “Payments/Donations” icon in the upper right corner of the page.
Applications, pastor letters and checks may be mailed to TABCOM School of Ministry, Grotonwood Camp and Conference Center, 189 Prescott Street, Groton, MA 01450.

Financial Assistance Options

The SoM does not offer scholarships and grants directly. However, there are TABCOM/other resources that offer scholarship and grant opportunities. This information can be provided to students upon request, for action and follow-up on their part.

For students receiving a grant or scholarship, the SoM will work with the student to determine the best option to apply the funds to any outstanding balances according to their personal situation.

MAKE YOUR NEED KNOWN TO YOUR CHURCH FAMILY
Congregational Appeal. Remember that many people praying and rooting for you. At least once per year, ask your pastor if you may have a minute for testimony to share with your church family about your School of Ministry journey. Explain that you are looking for financial assistance to continue your studies and invite them to partner with you. Gifts from individuals should be made by check and written to the church with a note in the Memo Line for your School of Ministry tuition. In this way, the donor’s gift is recorded and is tax deductible. Verify this procedure with your church treasurer.

Church Education/Scholarship Funds. Many churches have funds available for education. Such gifts are often given to young people just out of high school who are going on to college or vocational school, but ask whether there is such an education fund and whether you might be eligible to apply.

DON’T OVERLOOK YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS
Send a letter out to your family and friends explaining your School of Ministry enrollment and make your financial need known. Many might be able to make a financial contribution and all are available to pray for you.

ENGAGE WITH YOUR ASSOCIATION
In Massachusetts, some associations have funds available to be used for active American Baptist churches and members who need education or financial assistance. You and your church should actively participate in association meetings and ordination councils. Your association is a rich resource to rely on and participate in so that you can developing a network of colleagues and resources beyond your church congregation.

CONFERENCE OF BAPTIST MINISTERS IN MASSACHUSETTS (CBMM)

The conference has eduation grants that may be applied for if you are serving in a recognized ministry position at an American Baptist church in Massachusetts. Visit https://conferenceofbaptistministers.com/ to speak with Cheryl Harris about your eligibility and membership.

NORTHERN BAPTIST EDUCATION SOCIETY APPLICATION 

The Northern Baptist Education Society has scholarships for those who are members of AB churches in MA, VT, NH or ME. Scholarships are available to those who are enrolled in M.Div. programs or attend a theological school in one of these four states. In some circumstances, scholarships may be granted to those in an approved Lay Ministry program such as the School of Ministry.
